We are loving ❤️ the North Shore Scenic Drive in Minnesota. Waterfalls and lighthouses, huge cliffside views, old shipping/mining towns, maritime museums — so much to see and barely a crowd. Lake Superior is proving to be an amazing place for the kids to learn about the USA and our history.

I can’t pretend to love only beautiful and sophisticated things. The Galloping Ghost arcade in greater Chicago is the 8th wonder of the world. 800+ arcade games under one roof.

$20 and you play all day. 11 am to midnight. Just press start.
.
It was overwhelming at first. So many titles, so much flashing, too many choices. But after a couple of hours (ha) I settled into a rhythm. The kids absolutely ❤️ it.

Favorite games: Dragon’s Layer, Journey, Karate Champ, The Grid, Track and Field… too many.

What kind of family tours downtown Detroit as part of their curriculum? This one, I guess. Detroit is rough , for sure, but this history is fantastic.

We’ve been to Belle Isle. The anchor in the last photo belonged to the Edmund Fitzgerald. We walked all over downtown, Greektown, the Eastern Market. Got promptly removed from Canada because our children aren’t covid vaccinated. Oh well. They can keep it all to themselves.

Tomorrow we’re visiting the Henry Ford Museum, the highlight of our little stopover.
.
Detroit… it’s actually pretty cool in its rugged, defiant way.

It can’t all be mountain hikes and art museums. Part of this full-time RV deal with the kids is we have to do cool kid-centric things. Yesterday we hit Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio. Big coasters, the cedar. Kids loved it.

Favorite rides were Maverick, Steel Vengeance, Gatekeeper, and Valraven. Millennium Force and Top Speed Dragster we’re down.

We aren’t sure if it is better than Magic Mountain or not, but those two parks have to be the top two in the USA.

The Ledges hike in Cuyahoga Valley National Park is one of the most interesting hikes we’ve ever done. The kids loved it. About 2 miles RT.

This old boy swam up to us on Miramar Beach, FL. Biggest sea turtle we’ve ever seen — the guy is ancient — and had huge barnacles on his head and shell. He also had a small school of black and white striped fish hanging around his face. What a treat to meet him on our last day in Destin!
